All Our Eggs In a Basket

Our first project was to design a paper container with only a teaspoon of glue or foot of tape and carry 5 eggs. It was the project that taught people to sketch out ideas and brainstorm, and try to create as much variety in our initial sketches. [We learned to sketch out ideas and brainstorm quickly, and try to create variety in our initial sketches.]

The process also included sketch models. These are quick models based on sketches, which in this case we used paper, and we tested them with both plastic and real eggs. The idea of diversifying sketch ideas and not fixating on one intial design would help provide a foundation to all the other projects.

With the deadline coming to an end, it was our first time creating presentation boards and presenting our ideas to the class. Our teacher had us dress formally to have the full experience of presenting our work. What a first for all nighters.

Next up is the lamp project...

First Post

Inspired by other students creating blogs on their own experiences I will try to create my own to show students what I've learned and in hopes of adding to the community of student blogs.

Some of those blogs:

I go to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I chose to go to a university rather than an art college because I thought I could get a more variety of classes to support industrial design. I've just finished my sophomore year, which is our first year of ID. How our classes are laid out: design studio, drawing or computer applications I for 1st semester and design studio 2 and drawing or computer apps I for 2nd semester. My second semester I took computer apps II which teaches solidworks. It is a jr class, but it is optional to take it as a sophomore. I'll try to post projects from our sophomore year from our studio class. Thanks and Take care!
